Sculptures don’t usually grab my attention, but this one in NYC’s Garment District has always been a favorite.

It’s the expression of the face and the depth in the eyes that draws me in.

Also, this sculpture sits on the street, which gives it an accessibility not found with sculptures in museums.  It is part of the culture and community.

March 22 photo of the day

It is officially Spring, and today it even felt like it.

The birds in Central Park have been singing up a storm for the last week or so, letting us know that it won’t be long until we’re all able to walk around with jackets and shirtsleeves.

This little guy seemed more interested in the potential for breadcrumbs than singing (and he was sorely disappointed as I was not equipped with any leftovers to share), which is why I believe he stayed in one place long enough for me to get a good photo.

March 20 & 21 photos of the day

My Mom is visiting for a few days.  She flew in to LaGuardia on Thursday afternoon and, well, there are never more taxis in one place than waiting in line at the taxi station at the airport.

Since she’s here, I roused myself at earlier than my usual hour to go out for breakfast. Which meant the sun was still fairly low in the sky as we walked back through Lincoln Center, which made for great silhouette shots of people on their way to school or work.

March 19 photo of the day

More than half way through this month’s photo project I found myself thinking that the rest of the month would be difficult; what more is there to photograph?  (I know how ridiculous this sounds, given that I live in NYC.  Photo ops are everywhere!)   Then I realized that I was thinking this way because for the past few days I’ve been thinking more about photos that other people want to see than those that I want to see.   Which is the death knell of creativity.

You must always create for yourself first, and not for other people.

Looking back over the photos I’ve chosen, I think I ultimately always chose one that appealed to me first, but the process of walking around taking photos had lost some of its’ charm because I was thinking too much about other people.

One of the things I love to photograph is details of vintage furniture; all that wood and brass and peeling paint.      A photo of the entire thing doesn’t necessarily interest me – but a drawer, a clawed foot or a well worn handle, photographed up close so that every scratch or dent is visible?   That’s the image I want to see.   Then I can imagine the backstory to every flaw.

My daughter picked this shot out of three I was considering.

March 17 photo of the day

The obvious choice today was to go green.   But since I stay away from parades as a general rule, my St. Paddy’s Day options were more along the lines of post-parade revelers who were already more than a little inebriated.

And, well, no thanks.

Instead I picked a subject which frankly I can’t believe it took me this long to get to.

Books.

Kidney Disease- Kidney Disease can affect may factors associated with male discount price viagra disorder such as hormones, blood flow to the genital area and this results in harder and bigger erection. Low viagra 100mg no prescription HDL levels (good cholesterol) less than 40 mg/dL. I’ve taken photos of bookshelves and stacks of books, etc., but never really liked them much.   So today I targeted one of the last bastions of independent used bookstores in the city, located on Broadway between 80th and 81st St.  (I have no idea how they afford their rent, but I’m glad they do.)

I like it because although it is about books, and books in a bookstore, it’s not just that.  It is the reflection cutting across the window, the bankers lamp illuminating scene and the gold lettering on the glass.  I like, somehow, that you don’t see the name of the store.   Because books belong to the ages.

The photo won’t win any awards, but it may be one of my favorites.

March 14 & 15 photos of the day

Yesterday I met a friend of mine for breakfast.  We spent a lot of the time talking about creativity; what sparks it or sustains it,  whether it be in writing or photography or art.   I mentioned that when I’m taking photos, it is much easier to ‘see’ the good shot when I leave my own neighborhood.  Everything in our apartment and in the streets I walk every day is commonplace and I have difficulty seeing it through creative eyes.

So we gave each other an assignment.   She would write a paragraph or two about her own apartment as though it were part of a story, and I would photograph something in my home to use as my photo of the day.

It was both difficult and rewarding and something we should all do now and then; try to see our every day surroundings through new eyes.     This was my result:

Even a single dose of Kamagra can do it from the comfort of their own homes. levitra mastercard Moreover, while rhetoric on learning organizations soft tabs viagra is plentiful, thoughtful research is harder to find. Today, after two days during which Winter seemed loath to release its grip, Spring once again tried to break through.   Blue skies and sunshine and temps into the mid-50′s.

The sky was so bright you wanted to grab it and keep it in your pocket.

March 12 photo of the day

I had a hard time getting a shot I liked today.   Chelsea in the West 20′s provided the backdrop.  Several photos were ok, but nothing grabbed me and said, “This is the one.”

Breaking with protocol and because I vacillated back and forth over which shot to use, I’ll show you three photos; two that were in the running and the one I finally picked.

First we have the chair on the sidewalk.    This might have carried the day if I’d spent more time with it – maybe taken more shots from different angles.   Random pieces of furniture sitting on the sidewalk waiting to be carted away are not uncommon.  However, I’m quite sure this chair is not being thrown out but is in fact still in use; maybe by someone who wants a smoke, or who likes to read the paper outside.

The next shot is a candid photo of a guy checking his phone.   It was fairly difficult not to be obvious, so I got only one frame of him.   It came out better than I expected and I actually like it a lot.   Not sure why it lost out on photo of the day.    The caption would have read simply,  ”Chelsea. Boy.”    Those of you familiar with Chelsea will understand.

The last but not the least, generic cialis tadalafil massage therapy which is easily accepted by patients for it’s simple operation is also a very good auxiliary treatment. Alkaline pH is important online levitra buy at storefront for pancreatic juice simply because digestive enzymes operate only in an alkaline surroundings. While preparing the generic viagra uk platelets for injection the red blood cells are formed helping your penis grow in length and depth. The good news is that simple lifestyle changes are necessary to avoid premature ejaculation? Men should discount sildenafil bring some changes in their life to overcome this problem.

Finally, the winner.   To be honest I didn’t love this photo at first.  It was just another graffitied gate and not the most interesting one at that.

But then I looked again, and looked closer.  And noticed colors and depth I’d missed the first time around.

And wanted you to do the same.
