Don’t believe me? Ask the doctor!

Today Joshua and I were at a doctor’s office, and got to chatting with one of the physicians there.  I cannot reveal his name, as I didn’t get his permission to do so.  Suffice it to say that if you Googled him, you’d be impressed.  The talk turned to business, and this physician told us that his son, now in his mid-20′s, works for a very successful internet marketing company.  (He is good friends with the other 2 twenty somethings who are the co-founders of this company.)

Completely unprompted, and without knowing anything about us or our children, he said:

“My son learned nothing in college, but 3 years in a business has taught him so much.  His vocabulary has improved immensely and he no longer talks like a thug, he writes well…  I really wish we’d not sent him to college at all.  It was a huge waste of time and money.”

There you have it, from a well-respected, Columbia University educated physician.   Three years making money while working and learning a business was infinitely more valuable for this man’s son than four expensive years of ‘higher education’.

Life learning is the best learning.  Just ask the doctor.

About Amy

Amy Milstein was born and raised on a farm in Indiana, but after 20+ years considers herself a full-fledged New Yorker. She is married with two kids, who do not go to school but are instead life learners. This means they learn by living in the world (real life ) instead of hearing about it and simulating it in a classroom. With her family, Amy loves to travel, read, watch movies, write, sew, knit - the list is endless.
