Feasting my eyes at ABC Carpet & Home

Remember that room to myself that I hope to one day make a reality?  If I could, I would fill it with gorgeous, bright sparkly things from ABC Carpet & Home.  I would have to hire someone to come in and dust, of course, but for now we’ll just suspend the intrusion of reality.  PRACTICAL is not part of the topic at hand.  ABC Carpet is one of the most fun ‘wandering around’ stores in Manhattan, in my humble opinion. ( I think the scientific term is ‘window shopping’ especially when pillows can run upwards of $175 each. I saw some small ones on sale today for $80.  As I said, suspending reality.)   In addition to the carpets – which are actually housed in a second store across the street from the main location –  they have jewelry and clothing and amazing dishes and home furnishings, most of which are, as I mentioned above, completely impractical.  It’s part of the allure.   And of course the other part of the allure is the sheer amount of such items, all in one place.   One bud vase?  Sure that’s fine, but 50 on a shelf backlit with white and gold spotlights?  Now THAT’s what I’m talking about!

Every now and then I take my camera with me so that in addition to feasting my eyes, I can attempt to capture some of the lush, bright atmosphere and bring it home.   It can never compare to the real thing, but maybe you’ll get the idea.

About Amy

Amy Milstein was born and raised on a farm in Indiana, but after 20+ years considers herself a full-fledged New Yorker. She is married with two kids, who do not go to school but are instead life learners. This means they learn by living in the world (real life ) instead of hearing about it and simulating it in a classroom. With her family, Amy loves to travel, read, watch movies, write, sew, knit - the list is endless.
